And then it gets super uncomfortable. And there are some things there\u2019s nothing funny about. Like \u2018This is horrible.\u2019 This guy\u2019s completely humiliated, is cuckolded, he\u2019s embarrassed, he gets his ass kicked. And we shoot it that way. We let the actors bring the comedy. an incremental approach. \u201cWhen we got to Season 3, my thought was, \u2018Well, let\u2019s change it up a little bit.\u2019 Nothing revolutionary, just make it evolutionary,\u201d he told <em>Go Creative<\/em> host Ben Consoli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cinematographer continued to rely on the show\u2019s large-format ARRI Alexa camera package, a mainstay since the its inception. This package included Signature Prime lenses, which Daley praises for their warmth and softer focus. \u201cThe Signatures are a little bit warmer than the Supremes,\u201d he said. \u201cI found you can actually reduce your filtration because they\u2019re a little softer. They drop off the bokeh, the background is so definitive, nothing turns into a blob back there,\u201d he elaborated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow aligncenter\" toward the Supremes. They were cooler, a little sharper, and they just lend themselves to night work a little better,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daley emphasized that lens choices are made with the context of the scene in mind. Signature lenses were generally used for daytime sequences due to their warmth, while Supremes are chosen for their cooler, sharper quality in nighttime scenes. \u201cWe would never shoot particularly wide open because we always wanted to see where we were,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it came to capturing the show\u2019s varied and dynamic scenes, Daley opted for a flexible multi-camera setup. \u201cAlways three. But then we\u2019d have multiple units. Those two would have three. And when we were in the Coliseum, I believe we had 12,\u201d he revealed. This approach allowed for a wide range of shots, from intimate dialogues to grand set pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daley\u2019s philosophy on camera motion aligns with the show\u2019s focus on character-driven storytelling. \u201cIt needs to be motivated. swiper-pagination-white\"><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Monster Trucks, Militias and Mayhem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Season 3 amped up the spectacle with monster trucks, militias and mayhem. Capturing the essence of the real-life monster truck McBride had built for the series, \u201cThe Righteous Redeemer,\u201d was no small feat. \u201cThat monster truck is absolutely massive,\u201d Daley marveled. He noted that the sheer size of the vehicle presented a challenge in conveying its scale on screen. \u201cWhen I watch it, I sometimes wonder if we didn\u2019t actually get a sense of how massive that thing really is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While filming, Daley faced a filmmaker\u2019s worst nightmare: losing a camera to the very subject he was capturing. During a shot where a cow gets run over by the monster truck, a camera was placed too close to the action. \u201cThe frame is just full of black tire and then gone,\u201d Daley recounted. There\u2019s no way to rig so they built a vehicle that was on \u2014 imagine like a mechanical bull moves around. They built the chassis of one of those on that.\u201d Daley explained. This allowed the crew to mount real cameras for the driving shots, as the actors couldn\u2019t actually drive the monster truck themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teased at the beginning of the season and making a grand reappearance in the finale, the monster truck served as more than mere spectacle. \u201cIt\u2019s also kind of a metaphor for these characters, because they just are so imposing and
